// Why isomalt here
01
Pure and consistent
Assay of at least 98.0% (GPM+GPS) with reducing sugars at or below 0.3%, so there is little to react with sensitive actives. Shelf life 24 months.
02
Flows and compresses
Fine and powder grades flow freely through hopper and die and compresses to hard, low-friability tablets with a smooth surface.
03
Pleasant in the mouth
Mild, cooling sweetness with no aftertaste. Ideal for lozenges, chewables and syrups where compliance depends on taste.
// How it performs
Typical values for NT-ST-80 / 150 in this application. Batch COAs and full specification sheets ship with every sample.
Compressibility
Good direct compression at 5 to 15 kN; low friability, smooth surface
Loss on drying
≤7.0%; residue on ignition ≤0.1%
Compatibility
Inert with most APIs; no reducing sugar reactions
Sweetness
About 0.5 of sucrose; mild cooling effect
Recommended grade
NT-ST-80 (80 mesh) and NT-ST-150 (150 mesh)
// Formulation notes
01
For direct compression, blend NT-ST-80 or NT-ST-150 with 0.5 to 1% magnesium stearate and the active; no granulation step is needed.
02
Lozenges: cook isomalt to 160 to 165 °C, add the active and flavour below 120 °C, deposit into moulds.
03
For syrups, isomalt gives body without crystallisation risk; keep concentration below 25% w/v at storage temperature.
